There is definitely one cartoon that we all watched daily, as kids. This one, I admitte that I was quite addicted to, myself. It was The Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon series. The story of four turtles that sufer some weird, accidental mutation after being thrown awayin the sewer and encounter a similary mutant rat that teaches them the art of being a good ninja.
Almost 30 years after the first TMNT animated series, the turtles have been reborn as part of a new movie and a revived animated series. Action figures of the turtle characters are found in every toy store, and the hype with these ninja turtles seems to be bigger than it was back in the ’80s.
What is new about it is the fact that 3D printing has allowed fans of TMNT to change the premises.As Smith confesses: “My young son loves the TMNTs. He likes to draw them and make his own TMNT stories, and when I had the opportunity to model them, it was something we both liked and something to encourage him to keep an interest in drawing.”
Who 3D Prints The Mutant Ninja Turtles?
MyMiniFactory asked him to model the turtles,in order to make them available for people who would like to download and 3D print them, for free. His response was, as expected from any true fan:
“I have to admit it, I loved the movies and the whole concept of it, but I never had the figures as a child. I have bought them for my son though. My favorite character has to be Mikey, as he is an all around fun kinda turtle.”
To model them, Smith used Zbrush to sculpt out their figures. His reference images were taken from the original series.
