GTA 5 Virtual Reality
The footage was published on YouTube and it shows players stepping into the skin of protagonists Michael, Trevor, and Franklin, from GTA 5, by using an Oculus Rift DK 2 that offers a simulation of the game, in first-person mode.
Although the developer of GTA, Rockstar North did not yet officially provide Oculus Rift support for the latest Grand Theft Auto title, some of the most passionate players have found a way around this omission. By using the latest version of VorpX, a software program that facilitates various game builds to become compatible with VR, these true fans have made the impossible, possible.
Right now, the unique experiment simply offers some basic VR functionality, for example, the head movements are used to create the movement of the first-person camera. Using the game’s code, that has not yet been optimized for virtual reality; the results may seem unpleasant and uncomfortable for some users. The optimization, however can greatly improve the experience.
The footage that has been recently aired shows one player walk around Michael’s house in VR, while another one manages to capture a bike ride at night, in the city.
